Representation

Hey guys, I'm back with a new post! Today's topic is about representation especially how the media represents chefs. They usually wear a white chef's hat and coat. They have a lot of creativity, are normally seen as being both genders, and have gone or are going to culinary school. They are always working in a big kitchen filled with metal pots and pan, other chefs, and kitchen appliances. They generally are exposed to many diverse ingredients.

One example of how the are represented through the media can be seen in the movie Ratatouille. In this movie, the chefs all wear white chef hats and coats. They are all responsible for preparing items on the menu. All the chefs are very precise when following the recipes to ensure the quality of the food is at its best. Typically, most of them are organized to make their job easy. They must be clean and follow safety standard to guarantee that the food they are cooking is safe and delicious to eat. Another example of how they are represented can be found in multiple cooking shows but Top Chef in particular. The environment is very intense as they are responsible for all the food given to the customers. Also, they are seen wearing the chef coat and are surrounded by typical kitchen appliances and tools. Almost always chefs are on a time limit because of the demands they must meet. The chefs are attentive to their dish, making sure that it is up to standard.

I feel as if these representations are fair. To be successful, you must meet certain standard to secure customer loyalty. For chefs, its essential to wear proper gear so nothing gets in the food and to protect their own clothes. Metal pots and pan are generally used to cook the food in a hot oven or stove because metal is durable. I would retain the strict rules they must abide by. These rules are put in place to secure the safety of preparing the food and making sure the customer's health is not at risk. I also would keep the intense environment because without a time limit the chefs would not stay focused and on task. I would challenge what they wear. I believe that as long as they wear safe and nonflammable clothes, they should be allowed to wear what they please.

Cooking Magazine Research

Hey guys, so I thought about things and what's better than knowing a lot about one genre? Knowing a lot about a second one!

My second genre is food.

In food magazines, the font used is elegant and easily read. There is not a large amount of words as the magazines get straight to the point with giving the recipe and specific steps on how to make the dish. Usually the name of the dish is bigger than the rest of the text so it stands out.

They contain crystal clear pictures which helps appeal to the audience and provide an appetizing example of the dish. The pictures are taken in high key lightning which allows the colors to pop. The background is usually not intricate enabling the pictures on the page to be eye catching. The colors used are vibrant and the pictures used are very colorful. In the images, food magazines make sure you can see almost every ingredient used to make the dish.

Here is my first magazine sample. It is a great example because it displays many features common in food magazine spreads. The tittle is in bold and big. It captures the audience's attention just like the pictures do. They are very clear and were taken in very good lighting. We can see this from the glare in the glass jar and caramel apples. There is a lot of bright diverse colors making the pictures eye catching. Also a simple wood background is used to not draw attention away from the pictures and text.

Here is my second magazine sample. This spread also demonstrates a great example. The pictures used in this spread are very clear and colorful. They are also large permitting us to see details. The background is a simple and white allowing the audience to focus on only the pictures and words. The spread has minimal words which include the recipe and steps.
